Popular Nollywood actor and lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, seems to have taken lightly, the recent trend where his name is blamed for almost anything wrong happening in Nigeria.

Desmond seems to be all the rage on various social media platforms. Not only was his name trending, but his image alongside these statements “na desmond Elliot cause this thing”, “If no be desmond Elliot I for don finish my assignment” has also been used to create trending memes on social media platforms.
Recall that Desmond Elliot filed a motion to regulate social media activities in the country during the #endsars protest, which caused a stir among young Nigerians and was trending in the country during the #endsars protest. It is likely that this backlash he is currently experiencing is due to his unwanted comments on social media regulation during the #endsars protest in Nigeria.

A few days ago, popular Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham urged Nigerians to end the fashionable “Desmond Elliot” jokes on social media.

The actor cum politician, Desmond Elliot has been trending on social media after internet users decided to blame him for any bad events happening in the country.

The online bant started as a joke after the actor’s comment about Nigerian youths last year. However, his name continues to be at the top of the trending list as internet users keep dragging him into every post.

In response to the viral “joke”, Toyin Abraham has appealed to Nigerians to stop the jokes because it is annoying.

In a now-deleted tweet, she wrote: “Please can we all stop with the Desmond Elliot jokes pls is actually annoying, I feel if we continue with this joke then…. kilode gan”

However, a fan warned her against interfering, otherwise, she would be dragged to filth online. “Mummy you wan subscribe for dragging, Just stand down abeg”

Toyin replied saying that she is not on Desmond Elliot’s side but the joke needs to stop if the youths want to be taken seriously. “I don’t support him but the joke now is annoying cos we need to be more serious, so people can see we are serious.”

Recall that a few months ago, a video making the rounds on social media shows the moment Lagos legislator, Desmond Elliot called for a ‘change in narrative’ as regards the way some unruly behavior is displayed on social media. In the video, the actor cum politician called on the youth to get into Government if they are tired.
